The activities of Curba de Cultură are based on the principles of non-formal education, community engagement, and solidarity. Through its projects, the organization empowers young people to become active citizens by promoting intercultural learning, volunteering, social inclusion, and sustainable rural development. Volunteers support local communities by working with children, young people, and older adults, while developing their own personal and professional competences in an international environment.
About Curba de Cultură
Curba de Cultură is a non-governmental organization working with and for young people in rural areas of Romania. Its mission is to create opportunities for learning, participation, and personal development through non-formal education, volunteering, and community engagement.
It runs three privately funded Youth Centres in rural communities in Prahova County, including Romania’s first and only mobile Youth Centre, bringing educational and cultural opportunities directly to young people in remote villages. In addition to its daily youth center activities, it organizes youth exchanges, training courses, local and international events, educational camps, the summer festival, and an International Conference, creating spaces for intercultural learning and active citizenship.
Since 2015, it has proudly hosted more than 380 international volunteers from over 38 countries across four continents. It believes the best learning happens in an open, welcoming, and positive atmosphere—one filled with creativity, teamwork, and a youthful spirit.

Project 1: Building Youth Supportive Communities
The volunteer will support the daily activities of the youth centres by planning, preparing, implementing, and evaluating non-formal educational activities for children and young people. They will deliver non-formal learning activities not only in the youth centres but also in local libraries and schools, organizing workshops, games, creative and intercultural activities, sports, digital sessions, and environmental education initiatives while encouraging the active participation of local community members. The volunteer will also contribute to educational visits to recycling centres and landfills, promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among participants.
The volunteer will also assist with the logistical and organizational aspects of the project, including preparing activity spaces, maintaining a welcoming environment, promoting events, and supporting the daily operation of the youth centers. They will participate in regular planning meetings, complete weekly evaluations of their work, and collaborate with the hosting team and fellow volunteers to ensure the successful implementation of project activities and to foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging atmosphere.

Project 2: VILLAGE VIBES
The volunteer will contribute to documenting and promoting rural life in Romania by building on the results of previous projects, updating existing materials, and exploring the local community. They will visit local households, interview residents, collect stories, photos, and videos, and support local people in their daily activities when needed. The volunteer will also organize cooking workshops and implement non-formal educational and intercultural activities for children, young people, and older adults, helping to showcase the traditions, culture, and everyday life of the Romanian countryside.
The volunteer will support the daily work of the hosting organization by planning visits and activities, preparing promotional materials, editing photos and videos, writing articles, and contributing to the promotion of the project. They will participate in regular planning meetings, complete weekly evaluations of their work, and collaborate with the project team to create meaningful experiences for the local community while promoting rural heritage and active participation.

Project 3: Solidarity in the Community 5
The volunteer will take part in a team volunteering project aimed at supporting the local community through practical solidarity actions. Together with other international volunteers, they will assist elderly people, single parents, and other vulnerable community members with seasonal household tasks, including preparing homes for winter, gardening, basic maintenance, chopping and stacking wood, painting, cleaning, and other everyday chores. The volunteer will also participate in community clean-up initiatives and other activities that improve the local environment.
In addition, the volunteer will support the daily operation of the youth centres by helping prepare and maintain the facilities, organizing non-formal educational activities, games, workshops, and intercultural events for children and young people. The tasks will be varied, offering a combination of practical work and community engagement, allowing volunteers to make a meaningful contribution while developing teamwork, communication, and intercultural skills.

Volunteer profile:
We are looking for motivated, open-minded, and enthusiastic young people who are willing to take on the challenge of living and volunteering in a rural community in Romania. Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years old, available for the full duration of the mobility (depending on the project), and genuinely interested in international volunteering and community development.
We are looking for volunteers who are eager to work with local communities, promote rural heritage, sustainability, and active citizenship, while developing new personal and professional competences. Basic spoken and written English is required, as well as flexibility, adaptability, and a positive attitude towards a variety of practical and educational tasks. No specific qualifications are needed—only motivation, willingness to learn, teamwork, and a good sense of initiative.
