LOCAL HEROES OF TOMORROW in TYCHY
MY VOLUNTEERING EXPERIENCE – summary article of our volunteer Anna Olivero
Hello everyone! I’m Anna, and I had the opportunity to spend six months in Tychy, in the Silesia region of Poland, thanks to the project “Local heroes of tomorrow – Tychy” at Wolna Szkoła Dzika, a democratic school. During this time, I had the pleasure of working closely with the children, sharing aspects of Italian culture: we cooked typical dishes together, I organized Italian lessons, and prepared presentations on various topics.
Looking back, those six months feel almost unreal, as if I lived an entire lifetime in such a short period. The experience wasn’t just a project; it became an integral part of my life. Working with the children was magical: their spontaneity and authenticity taught me to live every moment to the fullest and to recognize how special everything around us is.
Throughout this journey, I rediscovered my creativity, developed intercultural communication, further strengthened my adaptability, and enhanced my independence.
In addition to my work at the school, I had the chance to travel and explore the wonders of Poland. I visited incredible cities such as Gdańsk, Wrocław, Kraków, and Warsaw, among many others. I greatly appreciated the nature even in large cities, and I fell in love with the local cuisine.
I’m deeply grateful for everything I had the chance to experience and for what this journey has given me!
The summary presentation and article was prepared by our volunteer, Anna Olivero, thank you! 🙂
Project was funded by the European Solidarity Corps.
