📰 Patryk and Krzysztof completed their ESC volunteering experience in Amman, Jordan. Below, they share their stories – we invite you to watch and take a closer look at their journey! 🙂
My name is Patryk. I have just returned from a European Solidarity Corps project in Jordan. Here are some of my experiences.
During the project, I spent about six months in Jordan, working with the local NGO Desert Bloom for Training and Sustainable Development. The organization’s headquarters are located in the capital city, Amman, where I spent most of my time.
My responsibilities included creating social media content, managing the website, and preparing presentations. During the presentation, I was able to use my legal background and I compared Jordanian legal regulations with those in Europe and other parts of the world. I worked in a team composed of Jordanians and other participants in the ESC. This project provided a valuable opportunity to learn about the local culture and to understand the cultural differences between European and Arab cultures.
During my stay, I took part in many interesting activities and projects.
It was a valuable experience for me to participate in Living Labs, which took place in Wadi Rum. I had the opportunity to see the Jordanian desert with my own eyes and meet the local community. I learned how climate change impacts the lives of the local population and discovered the significance of the desert mountains to the community: they serve as a source of inspiration with each mountain carrying its own story.
I had the opportunity to visit also another desert location in Jordan and live with a Bedouin family for about a week. During my stay, I observed how they spend their time and I tried local dishes. I visited a local university, an association, and a foundation. Finally, I had the chance to see camels and observe how the Bedouins care for their animals.
It was a fascinating experience to learn about the history of the region. I visited remarkable sites dating back to the Roman Empire, including the ruins of ancient cities. Additionally, it was an incredible opportunity to explore locations mentioned in the Bible and associated with Moses, Elijah, and Jesus.
It was an exciting chance to meet new people, including Jordanians and people from other countries. I gained valuable experience working in an international team and learned many new things.
I believe the ESC project was an incredible opportunity. It allowed me to learn about the local culture, visit amazing places, meet new people, and gain a deeper understanding of the situation in the Middle East.
