Better together in Rybnik – Diamante’s summary article
Let your Italian volunteer Diamante welcome you in the small but cozy Rybnik! I have lived here for 6 months in a totally different atmosphere, challenging and satisfying.
The local Zabytkowa Kopalnia IGNACY (Historical Mine Ignatius) hosted me in its fantastic environment. The museum represents the Polish typical industrial heritage with many steam engines. It is also a cultural center, with some events or workshops on various topics, like art or History.
I discovered more about myself and my future life goals. I learn how to relate with children (my first experience with them), teach foreign or mother languages and get along a really far culture from mine. I appreciate some aspects more and miss something from my native country.
I realized one of my dreams: I was an English-Spanish interpreter for a Peruvian painter for a few days (one of the museum festivals) and met my favorite Portuguese street art artist.
I understood another life rhythm: improving and adapting my communication skills everyday, bringing energy and a different point of view from my Italian routine, teaching and learning at the same time. Some days I was asked to make a guide tour just with a few advancements, but improving was also a good part of the experience.
Most important of all: I enjoyed the project thanks to good company (other volunteers and coworkers) with fun and looking for a positive attitude every time. I traveled, I took some time to rest and tried to connect to the reality I discovered. Find your way, do not hesitate and simply be yourself, your best version of you!
The summary presentation and article was prepared by our volunteer Diamante Barbieri, thank you ! 🙂
