“WE” greater than “I” – Youth Exchange in Abovyan

“WE” greater than “I” was an youth exchange project financed by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ Program.

From October 5–12, 2024, 36 young people from six countries gathered in Abovyan, Armenia, for the “WE” Greater than “I” youth exchange. This initiative was designed to deepen participants’ understanding of sustainability while promoting well-being and practical preparedness. Through engaging nature activities and survival trips, participants were encouraged to reconnect with the natural world, learning essential skills for navigating unfamiliar environments.

This immersive experience inspired youth to move beyond familiar comforts, tapping into an innate resilience and awareness essential for growth and unity.

The project’s non-formal activities engaged participants in sustainability and essential skills development. Icebreaker activities like the Name Game and exploring the 8 Key Competences fostered group bonding, while first aid, navigation, and survival skills prepared participants for real-life challenges. Cultural events, including an Intercultural Evening, encouraged global awareness.

One city task involved connecting with locals through small exchanges and spreading information about Erasmus+, alongside creating a video highlighting sustainability challenges and solutions.

The “WE” Greater Than “I” project empowered participants with essential survival skills, including first aid and navigation, while fostering confidence and resilience. Through hiking expeditions across Armenia’s landscapes, they connected deeply with the country’s nature and heritage. Each challenge reinforced the strength of teamwork, transforming the journey into one of self-discovery and mutual support. Participants embraced new perspectives and built lasting bonds, learning that collective effort makes any challenge easier to face. The project ultimately celebrated growth, cultural appreciation, and the joy of shared adventure.
