Sólheimar is an eco-village in Iceland and is renowned for its ecological, artistic, and international community ethics. Powered with thermal and solar energy, the village is fully sustainable. The main work in this project will be in Forestry called Ölur and also in the greenhouses which are called Sunna. The main activities, but not limited to are; Forestry; managing, planting, using, conserving, and repairing forests, woodlands, and associated resources for human and environmental benefits. Agriculture: cultivating soil; planting; raising, and harvesting crops. Horticulture: growing fruits, vegetables, and plants. Environmental work around the property. Tasks Coordinate Project Participants Organize household chores & schedule Organize/supervise cooking sessions Participate in the program activities as a volunteer. The Leaders will work as a team under the supervision of the Project Manager of the organization, and the Manager from Sólheimar Eco- Village.
4 double rooms with private bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and common areas. The common areas are shared with the local workers. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge. Food is included for the duration of the project; however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. We reduce our carbon footprint on the planet by cutting down our meat intake. Lunch is served at the Cafeteria. Pick up at BSI Bus Station, Return transfer to project Site from Reykjavík Note: There is no public bus running from the project location.
Please note!!! This is only open to participants with good knowledge or education in the field of Agriculture, Horticulture, or Environmental Science. Age: +22 Physical skills: Physical strength, Heavy lifting, Hand-eye coordination, Strong eyesight, Good hearing. Fine motor skills Skills and competencies: Our leaders have to be Positive and Highly Motivated. Self-initiative and Organizational skills are a must. Time-management skills and ability to work under time pressure during high peaks of the season. Effective communication. Flexibility
